Pete O Rourke: El Loco rejects Everton

|

According to the latest reports from well-known football reporter Pete O Rourke’s piece with Football Insider, the legendary former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa will not be taking the manager role at Everton following the sacking of Frank Lampard yesterday.

Reports emerged that Bielsa was at the top of the list of managers who the Toffees were looking to recruit for the open position, leaving Leeds fans unimpressed.

David Ornstein in The Athletic outlined that Bielsa did in fact hold talks with Everton chairman Farhad Moshiri, but it now appears the negotiations ultimately proved to be unsuccessful. Brentford manager Thomas Frank is also said to have turned down the head coach opportunity at Goodison Park.

Everton sacked Lampard following their 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers West Ham last weekend, leaving them 19th in the Premier League table with just one win from their last 14 games.

Marcelo Bielsa is revered by all at Elland Road, after changing the culture at Leeds and guiding the club back to the Premier League. This is not the first time that he and Frank Lampard have been cited in the same news story, as Lampard was manager of Derby County at the time of the notorious spygate incident during El Loco’s first season at Leeds. Vital Leeds reflected on the incident in our On This Day series just last week.

Leeds fans will breath a sigh of relief that Bielsa has supposedly turned down the Everton job. While there is plenty of time left in the season, it is possible that Jesse Marsch and the Whites find themselves in another relegation battle, and it would appear that Everton will be a rival at the bottom end of the table. We know better than anyone that Bielsa can change the entire direction of a squad, but thankfully it looks as though we won’t be coming up against him anytime soon.

Send Marsch to Everton and bring Bielsa back to Elland road where he belongs. Just to put the record straight we avoided relegation last season due to the timely return of several key player’s and inspite of Bielsa being fired and Marsch’s hiring

      Cheers Barry, how are things?
A lot would agree he keeps us up last year. Who knows. Glad he won’t be at Goodison anyway!
Hoping it comes good for Marsch second half of the season.
