“It’s Always A Proud Moment” – Noel Whelan Praises Leeds Youngster After Latest International Achievement

At the beginning of last week Leeds United fans discovered that the wider world of football was truly aware of highly rated Academy graduate Jamie Shackleton as he received his maiden call up into the England Under 20 group.

The 19-year-old had a very good season under manager Marcelo Bielsa as we narrowly failed to return to the Premier League via the automatic spots, and then Play-Off route, and despite his more limited starting action, he can be pleased with himself and he can certainly expect far more game time next year you would think.

These Leeds Fans Are Hoping England Curse Doesn’t Strike Elland Road

It’s not the first time that BBC pundit and former player Noel Whelan has used Football Insider as an outlet for his views, and he again praised Shackleton, stating he should’ve had more game time, following his debut for England as a substitute in what ultimately became a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Portugal in the Toulon Tournament.

“It’s always a proud moment for anyone to be capped by England. I’m really, really pleased for Jamie, he really deserves it. He’s been a great player last season. Didn’t get used enough really in my eyes. The quality that he brings, the energy, the tenacity, the way he can run with the ball, drive at defenders but also enjoy the horrible side of the game – he ticks every box for me. I’m not surprised he’s been capped by England at that level. With Bielsa there, he’ll make him an even better player.”
