A poor second-half performance saw Leeds United suffer another defeat as they went down to a 3-1 defeat at Preston North End.

Leeds looked well in control of the game in the first half and they led thanks to an early Kemar Roofe goal but the second half saw Leeds concede three times.

Paul Gallagher drew Preston level early in the second half from the penalty spot and they were soon ahead when Sean Maguire headed home. The home side banished any chance of a late fightback from Leeds when Alan Browne headed home a third goal.

Leeds made four changes for the clash at Preston with Vurnon Anita, Caleb Ekuban, Jay-Roy Grot and Roofe all coming into the side.

Preston made a bright start but Leeds who went ahead on 13 minutes. Roofe was on hand to turn the ball home after a low cross from Kalvin Phillips.

Pablo Hernandez forced Declan Rudd into a good low save and then Caleb Ekuban just failed to get on to the end of a ball over the top from Roofe.

Preston almost levelled just past the half-hour when Billy Bodin cut inside Vurnon Anita but his curling effort hit the foot of the post.

Ekuban was next to go close for Leeds when Rudd was forced into a good low save after a good passing move.

Paudie O’Connor then had the ball in the net but his header was ruled out for a foul in the build-up to the corner.

Preston equalised in the opening minutes of the second half. Gallagher fired home from the penalty spot after Anita had fouled Bodin in the penalty area.

The hosts almost when ahead when Browne forced Bailey Peacock-Farrell to tip the ball over the bar after Leeds failed to pick up Browne from a corner.

Preston were ahead shortly afterwards when Sean Maguire headed home a Gallagher cross. The turnaround was compounded with Pontus Jansson being forced off through injury before the restart, handing a debut to Diaz.

Peacock-Farrell was then forced into another save to deny Greg Cunningham.

Ekuban had a good chance to equalise for Leeds but he delayed getting his effort away and his shot was deflected over the bar.

Leeds made a double substitution with Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski coming on.

The pair gave Leeds a new impetus and Hernandez and Ronaldo Vieira both forced Rudd into good saves.

Both sides were creating chances and Peacock-Farrell made another good save to deny substitute Callum Robinson.

Preston wrapped the game up just inside the final ten minutes when Browne glanced home a header from a Robinson cross.

It was to prove to be the last meaningful moment of the game as a poor second half cost Leeds any chance of coming away from the game with anything.
