Further to our report on Mo Camara’s interest in joining Leeds, Phil Hay, in his latest podcast episode, has outlined the club’s stance on the player, which is of course a far more important factor in any deal.

Hay explained that ”[Leeds] do like him, they are obviously aware of him, I think he’s the sort of player who could work for them… that is one of those you would say ”don’t rule out”. ”

Despite this, he went on to describe more concrete interest in RB Leipzig’s American holding midfielder Tyler Adams. ”All the signs from Germany seem to be that Adams will be on the move from them at some point in this window.”  While this is not necessarily to Leeds, the club have been heavily linked to the USMNT international this window.

The relationship between Leeds United and RB Leipzig, however is not, as Hay described, ”hunky-dory”, largely due to the dispute between the clubs surrounding payment on the Jean-Kevin Augustin deal. Signed on loan in January 2020, a clause in his deal gave the Whites an obligation to buy the player for £18m should the club achieve promotion to the Premier League. With the season halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic, promotion was only achieved in July: after, the club argues, his contract should have ended, returning him to his parent club. This is currently with the Court of Arbitation for Sport.

Despite this, the dispute should not halt any deal in the future: if the club is offered cash for a player that meets their demands, they won’t refuse the deal due to a dispute like this, as it is not in their financial interest.
