Young Southend United goalkeeper Dan Bentley says he is not being distracted by reports linking him with a move to Leeds United but admits his future is out of his hands.
The 20-year-old has sprung to prominence this season at Southend as he has helped the shrimpers climb the League Two table and they are almost certain of a place in the play-offs.
Leeds boss Brian McDermott was watching from the stands last week as Bentley kept his 19th clean sheet of the season for Southend as they won at automatic promotion chasing Rochdale 3-0 but Bentley, who came through the ranks at Roots Hall, says his future is out of his hands.
Speaking in the Southend Echo , Bentley said, “I`m just thinking about matters on the pitch and I`m not going to be distracted by what might be happening off it.
“I`m a Southend United player, I`m happy here, it`s my local club, I`m playing regularly and I`m certainly not looking to go anywhere.
“I will keep giving 100 per cent here until somebody tells me differently but that`s out of my hands really so I don`t think about.”
Leeds have two goalkeepers out of contract at the end of the season whilst rumours this week suggest that all is not well with regular number one Paddy Kenny, who hasn`t featured since returning to full fitness. On loan Jack Butland has kept Kenny out of the side in recent weeks despite Kenny returning to full fitness and McDermott has preferred youngster Alex Cairns on the bench.
Kenny has one-year remaining on his current deal at Elland Road whilst Jamie Ashdown and Cairns are both out of contract.
Bentley signed a new three-year deal with Southend at the start of last season.
