Some Leeds supporters have been discussing whether United should be looking to sign Ander Iturraspe this summer, following his release by Athletic Bilbao.

Iturraspe has spent his entire career at the San Mames Stadium bar a one-season loan to CD Basconia more than a decade ago, having worked his way through the Basque outfit’s youth ranks. He will now leave the club at the end of the month, though, after Athletic opted against handing him a new contract.

Altogether, an eleven-year senior career with Les Leones has returned 320 competitive appearances, three goals and eight assists. But regular fitness gripes and injuries meant he could only manage three appearances in the 2018/19 La Liga season, and two outings in the Copa Del Rey.

We have been linked with a move for Iturraspe fairly regularly over the last few months too, while reports emerged that Bilbao would not hand the midfielder a new deal.

It has been suggested that Marcelo Bielsa was keen to reconnect with his former player, having worked with Iturraspe while in charge of Bilbao between 2011 and 2013. Director of Football Victor Orta has also been mentioned in the past, as it was noted that the 30-year-old could be signed without eating into much of our summer budget.

El Desmarque, meanwhile, are now reporting that the Spanish midfielder does not look at a potential move to Elland Road with bad eyes, as he gave a great version of himself during his time working under Bielsa.

There are several Spanish sides keen to sign the 2015 Spanish Super Cup winner though, but the two-time international is not in a hurry to decide his future, as he wants to secure the best possible destination for what could be the final years of his career.
