French sports media outfit Media Foot has reported that Leeds United are among the Premier League sides interested in securing the signature of Lens midfield star Seko Fofana.

Lens have been one of the most exciting stories in world football this season, as they impressively sit in second place in Ligue 1 – just four points behind French giants PSG.

Fofana is one of the key pieces in the Lens side, and played a crucial role in their 3-1 victory against champions PSG last week. The 27 year old’s performance was describes as a ‘masterclass‘, registering a brilliant pin-point assist that helped hand the league leaders their first loss of the season.

Leeds seem eager to recruit a central midfielder who can fit into Jesse Marsch’s first-team in the coming weeks. Following the departure of Mateusz Klich to DC United in the MLS, as well as an unsuccessful bid for Moroccan World Cup ace Azzedine Ounahi, there is a looming question around who Victor Orta and Leeds will be setting their sights on to bolster their midfield options.

With Lens in the hunt for Champions League football this season, they are likely to be unwilling to let their captain and star midfielder leave in the January transfer window.

To give an indication of the kind of player and professional Fofana seems to be, when he signed a contract extension at Lens back in September, his team and fans organised a surprise celebration to mark the occasion of the fan-favourite staying with the club [via Mozzart Sport].

He would undoubtedly be a great addition to Jesse Marsch’s side, but its hard to gauge whether or not this is something the club can get over the line in the January window.
