Leeds fans have been closely monitoring the developments around French striker Georginio Rutter’s move to Elland Road, and now it appears that the forward is set to complete his medical ahead of signing for the club.

Leeds United are set to break the club’s transfer record, and they close in on securing the signature of 20 year old French striker Georginio Rutter from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for a reported fee of £35.3 million [via Sky Sports].

We previously discussed that the 20 year old had agreed personal terms with the Whites, and the transfer fee was in the process of being finalised. Now, in the latest news around the move, Rutter is expected to complete a medical at Leeds within the next 48 hours.

Assuming the medical goes as planned and Leeds land their man, the fee will break the previous record set in 2020 when Rodrigo completed his switch to Elland Road from La Liga club Valencia for a reported fee of £27 million.

Rutter has two goals and two assists to his name this season in a Hoffenheim side that sits 11th in the Bundesliga table as the league returns from its World Cup pause. He is a highly rated young talent, and could really bring some flare to Jesse Marsch’s side.

Leeds fans have been calling for the club to strengthen their attacking options, and the Whites depth issues have been well-documented. Patrick Bamford has struggled with injury greatly over the past year, suffering repeated setbacks every time he looks close to regaining his match fitness.

Rodrigo has been excellent in front of goal for Leeds this season, and he adds great energy to the attack. It will be interesting to see what way Marsch sets his team up should the club complete the signing of Rutter, as you would imagine he’s not coming in to sit on the bench with such a significant transfer fee.

Rutter’s signature would be hugely exciting for Leeds fans, and with speculation around a potential loan move to the Championship for 20 year old striker Joe Gelhardt, we’ll all be eager to see some new faces coming into Elland Road.

Once again over paying for an unproven player. 35 million is nothing short of outrageous for a player who hasnt even won a cap for France. Not the only fan who had never heard of him. Splashing money like this doesnt impress anyone, just makes us look stupid.

      Hey Tom how are things?
Its hard to know. Not going to pretend I was on expert on him before the news broke at the weekend either. Serious money alright, hopefully it pays off and we’re looking at a real talent. Not looking forward to hearing about the price tag every time he doesn’t score haha.
      Cheers for reading mate, MOT!
