Leeds must splash over £20m to land 16-goal forward

|

Leeds United are flying high in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League but the Championship leaders have suffered three consecutive defeats across all competitions, showing that further work is required.

Marcelo Bielsa may be tempted to dip into the transfer market during January in order to bolster his squad but it seems that a move for a top-class striker is dead in the water, as his club have priced any potential suitors out of a deal.

Sky Sports state that Brentford will seek in excess of £20m for star striker Neal Maupay, who has starred in the second-tier of English football this season by scoring 15 goals in the league, with only Aston Villa’s Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham and Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp scoring more.

In comparison, Leeds’ top-scorer in the Championship this season, Kemar Roofe, is two goals shy of that figure and is the only player within Bielsa’s squad to have hit double figures in the league this term.

Maupay, who is also a target for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, is likely to remain with the Bees as a result.
