Ex pro tips Leeds to snatch £5.4m-rated future star if Qatari investment goes through – report

|

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan has told Football Insider he expects Paris Saint-Germain product Timothy Weah to join United if the Qatari Sports Investment group’s investment goes through.

It has been claimed that Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s group are set to buy a 10% stake in the Whites, having met with our owner Andrea Radrizzani in Doha on Monday to finalise discussions.

The level of investment by QSI is thought to have been agreed midway through May, and could include an option to take full control of the club if Radrizzani later looks to cash in.

Given Al-Khelaifi is also the President of Paris Saint-Germain, the thought of his group investing into United has led to mounting speculation that some of the Ligue 1 champions’ youth products could venture across the channel on loan, and Whelan feels Weah’s name has already been muted.

“Leeds could get hold of some top young players on loan,” Whelan claimed. “PSG will have strong academy players, and players surplus to requirements, who may want to come to England and give it a crack at Leeds.

“Timothy Weah is one [name] that has been mentioned. I can see him joining Leeds. He showed at Celtic he has got something, pace, good feet, plenty of raw potential.”

Raw potential may not be necessarily what we need to go one better next season and secure promotion, but Weah would be a solid addition to have alongside Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe so that the pair are not overworked.

It would be extremely unlikely that Weah would enter Marcelo Bielsa’s plans as an immediate starter, considering he only started a handful of games during his loan spell with Celtic in the recently concluded season, in which he scored four goals in 17 appearances.

Whether PSG would be willing to loan the £5.4million-rated 19-year-old to us is another matter, as it has been reported that the Parisian outfit are open to selling the 6ft United States U20 international this summer, as they do not feel he has a future at the club.
