“You’ve Got To Be Careful Now” – Former Leeds Player Has A Summer Warning

|

With Leeds United fans eagerly refreshing the internet in the hopes of seeing confirmation that manager Marcelo Bielsa has agreed with the club to contract up for the 2019/20 campaign, all fans know what a massive summer this now is at Elland Road.

With injuries catching up with us and a lack of a clinical edge up front, what could’ve been a great season for the club turned into disappointment, but it still has to be considered a good season all things considered.

Now though, we want to go one step further and be the next club who suffers Play-Off heartbreak one year, and then promotion joy the next. Key to that will be Bielsa and the signs look good, it’s also important that we keep our better players and then strengthen elsewhere.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds recently, former player Dominic Matteo urged the club to hold on to our younger players and get the rebuild right.

“Hopefully we can keep hold of the manager because I think he is a good manager. And also, keep hold of our good young players. That’s going to be a task this summer. We have got some incredible young players. The Under-23s are winning stuff. You have got to be careful now – now that we have missed out, we don’t go getting rid of all of our best assets. Got to hold on to them and rebuild.”

I doubt few fans will disagree with his words to be honest. We all know where we need to improve and have better depth and options, so I’m pretty sure our Argentine genius does.
