Victor Orta’s words wreak of bad management, and could cause major issues at the club – Opinion

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

That’s usually how the saying goes, but on this occasion, I think it’s fair to say that the shame should stay with one person in particular.

Speaking to TMW, Leeds United’s Director of Football Victor Orta has come out and announced that he doesn’t expect there to be much action when it comes to the January transfer window at Elland Road:

“We have made a conservative line in the summer, we will do it in winter. The new ones need time, in January there are few options and they have a certain type of matrix. We need intelligence, I can say that it will be a quiet market for Leeds.”

He would later go on to state that the reason behind this was because “only 25% of winter shots are successful”.

It’s well documented that a failure to invest in January was part of the reason that Leeds United didn’t manage to get promoted last season, and it would appear that the same problem could rear its ugly head upon the club once again. This to me, just smacks of bad management at board level.

It’s not as if the problem isn’t slapping them right in the face either. The latest table from Experimental361 shows that if Leeds had a clinical goalscorer, they could be as many as 13 points clear at the top of the table right now. Instead, they find themselves two points and two places off the top in 3rd place. Isn’t the message clear enough? They need to get someone in to take those chances.

Whilst it wouldn’t be fair to demand that they go out and spend spend spend, after all there are very strict Financial Fair Play regulations in this division, just ask Birmingham City. But for him to be insinuating that there is going to be little to no movement inwards in the window, especially after it played a huge part in the club not getting promoted last campaign, is quite frankly something that’s very hard to swallow.

If the club does not get promoted this season, then it could lead to some problems at the club, including big players leaving, Marcelo Bielsa going, and QSI thinking twice about their potential investment.

Do Leeds need a bigger squad?

Yes

No

They say you have to spend money to make money, and never was that saying truer than when it comes to Leeds United in this upcoming window.
