“Sports psychologists required for overtime” – Some Leeds fans react to baffling stat

Some Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media, after LUFC Data shared a baffling stat highlighting which months the club have taken the most points in since the start of the 2010/11 season.

Over the past decade, we have only had three top-half finishes to a Championship campaign, with the ’10/11, ’16/17 and ’18/19 terms leading to a top-12 result.

The ’10/11 campaign saw United end the year seventh in the standings, having won 19 of our league games and put 72 points on the board, while ’16/17 again saw the club narrowly miss out on a Play-Off berth.

We booked a place in the Play-Offs last season, of course, having challenged for an automatic promotion spot for much of the campaign, only to see the term slide away in the closing months.

April saw Marcelo Bielsa’s side win two of six games, drawing once, having also struggled for consistency throughout September and October, when the club only managed to take 13 points from a possible 27 and never recorded back-to-back wins.

April was, statistically, our worst month to play in throughout the past decade, having won just 27% of our league fixtures. November, on the other hand, has been our best, having won 58% of our Championship games.

For a good sign of things to come as we close out the decade, December has been our second-best month to play in, having won 49% of our second-tier matches. But January could prove to be a challenging time, as the first month of the year has only led to a 36% win-rate – the joint-third worst.

Does Radrizzani need to invest in January to avoid a repeat?

No

October has been our second-worst month having won 32% of our league games, while January and February are joint-third.

March (39%) and May (38%) are not much better, while we tend to start seasons strongly with August returning a 45% win-rate and September 43%.
