With it being believed and reported that Derby County striker Matej Vydra was the top target for Leeds United this summer, but any potential transfer becoming stalled after he apparently upped his wage demands following the opening rounds of talks, any real news of substance has long gone quiet.

We are still tentatively linked with an interest, however, and his name continues to be referenced in reports concerning other potential targets but that’s very much filler for a word count with nothing seemingly changing.

The presumption is should Vydra choose to lower his demands again, we will continue to meet the £11million fee for his services as the agreement in principle between both clubs remains in place.

With the Championship kick-off nearing, as is the Premier League kick-off some fans feel that with time pressures now coming into play – the permanent transfer window shuts early this year – if Vydra was merely stalling for time in the hopes of a Premier League club coming in for him, he’ll have to make a decision soon. Especially in light of Derby’s chase for Martyn Waghorn and their capture of Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott – he’ll quickly slip down Derby’s pecking order and lose out on game time.

That could see movement on the deal once more.
