Leeds United are interested in signing winger Marcus Edwards from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Edwards joined Guimaraes from boyhood team Tottenham last summer, having made just a single senior appearance for the North London club, and has impressed during his time in Portugal.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals and provided nine assists in 36 appearances in his debut season on the Iberian peninsula, which appears to have attracted attention from back in England.

According to the latest reports, Leeds are considering a move for the former England Under 20 international, as the continue their search for a winger before the transfer window closes in just a few day’s time.

It is thought the Championship title winners are now taking an interest in Edwards after becoming frustrated in their pursuit of the likes of Manchester United’s Dan James and Rangers’ Ryan Kent in their attempts to sign a new wide attacker.

As things stand, there are still three years remaining on Edwards’ contract with Guimaraes, putting the Portuguese club in a good position to negotiate any offer that Leeds might make for the winger.

It does seem as though Edwards could be a useful option for Leeds to target, with time running out for them to do business in the window.

If they do bring in a winger then you feel this could be considered a job well done for them across the course of the market, and Edwards’ return last season means he does look like being a decent option to fill that wide role.

You also feel that the way he has taken to life in Portugal suggests he has the adaptability needed to cope with a move to the Premier League, and at 21-years-old, he is a player who could be a useful asset for many years to come if he makes the move to Elland Road.
