With ongoing speculation linking young Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira with a switch to the Italian Serie A with Sampdoria, the Elland Road faithful continue to be pretty mixed in their reactions to the news.
The 20-year-old Academy graduate undoubtedly has ability and at his age the natural standpoint to go to is ‘he’ll only get better’. With 54 starting appearances to his name and a further 17 showings from the substitutes bench, it’s also hard not to argue that his initial promise saw him stall in the campaign of 2017/18.
Some will blame the season itself more than the player, others will say it’s expected from a lad of his age as consistency is the last thing that’s normally developed – others think he was flash in the pan and we’re better off cashing in quick whilst that option is available.
It certainly seems that this is the outlook taken by manager Marcelo Bielsa with a reported fee of around £7.7million agreed according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay.
The worry, of course, is that we backed the wrong horse and rather than diminishing in stature, Vieira finds that next gear at our cost.
If this is just seen as a way to break even on Bamford that’s just poor.

It’s not.we were offered £7.7m for a fringe player

I think if Bielsa saw that, he wouldn't have been sold.

Well put

I don't necessarily agree with this, however he was poor last season and £7m is alot of money for us to use to re-invest. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us. I can see it now, 2 years time he ends up at Juve. Called it.

Was never 100% convinced that Vieira would go on to be a world beater. For that money if we can get a couple of extra players in key positions like CB that gets us promoted then I'd be happy. Sooner we get back up the better chance we have of keeping our youths in the future!

He wouldn’t of started, the move happened quickly which suggests he was happy to move, good luck to the lad

Time will tell but looks good business to me, he wasn’t good last season & hasn’t looked right in preseason! Won’t be happy if the money isn’t put back into the squad though!
