News: 34-year-old admits he has always admired Leeds United

|

Pablo Hernandez first saw Leeds on TV when he was 16.

The Whites were playing in their Champions League semi-final against Valencia and Hernandez watched both legs as his team triumphed 3-0 on aggregate and knocked the Whites out of UEFA’s premier competition.

Hernandez was part of Valencia’s youth team at the time and would stay at the Mestalla for another eight years before he joined Swansea City.

The 34-year-old, though, could see that Elland Road was a “special stadium” and that for him, “it is an honour to represent such a big, big club.”

The former Spanish international has become a fan-favourite at Elland Road, and last season was named as their Player of the Year after he bagged 12 goals and notched 12 assists.

Hernandez is currently injured, but Marcelo Bielsa is hoping to have his Spanish schemer back sooner rather than later.

Hernandez has not quite hit the heights of last season just yet, but the Whites have only won two games since he picked up his calf injury – that has then led to a slight hamstring injury.

The Spaniard makes Leeds tick, and they will be delighted to have him back for Saturday’s match.

Hernandez will do everything he can to ensure Leeds are promoted to the top-flight this season as he feels he owes it to the Elland Road faithful.
