According to Transfer news live, Leeds are in talks about a possible transfer for Juan Mata.

The 34 year old could be available on a free transfer as his Manchester United career looks to be over, and with no talks over a new contract at the club it looks like he will be free to leave. His experience could prove to to be vital for Leeds this season as they hope to improve on last seasons poor campaign and precarious league position.

Mata comes with a wealth of experience having played for Valencia 129 times scoring 33 goals, Chelsea 82 times with 18 goals and nearly 200 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 34 times. He also has over 40 caps for the Spanish national team netting on 10 occasions. He has played at the top levels throughout his career winning multiple major trophies along the way. Premier League titles, FA Cups and Champions League trophies throughout his illustrious career.

Even at the age of 34 he could still do a job for Leeds in an attacking midfield role and would be a very good signing for Jesse Marsch’s squad. Leeds have yet to replace the likes of Pablo Hernandez in the central attacking midfield position and with only Brendan Aaronson being brought in, Juan Mata could clearly be a good option for Leeds.  Especially on a free transfer, it would be a no brainer.

It will be interesting to see how this develops and it is exciting to see Leeds being linked with good, high profile players. His experience will also be very good for a few of the players and aid their development, with Aaronson and youngsters like Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi to learn from him, which can only be beneficial for the team, in the long term.
