Marsch: Firpo out for 8 weeks

|

Jesse March has revealed in his press conference that left-back Junior Firpo will miss 8 weeks, including the start of the season, after picking up a knock in the 4-0 friendly victory over Blackpool last Thursday, in which he scored and assisted in a quality first-half performance.

It’s not as bad as it potentially could have been, remarks Marsch:

“We’re hopeful that it’s a little bit faster because Junior healed really, really quickly last time after the MCL injury.”

The American also explored potential solutions for the role in the press conference.

“We’re looking very closely at Leif Davis and we think he’s done really well.

We have also other solutions, like Pascal [Struijk], and potentially Jack [Harrison], but in the whole process, we were always evaluating what we would need at that position.

So obviously this highlights that a little bit more clearly and we have time… we have time.

An update on other injuries in the side was also part of his discussion.

On Liam Cooper:

“I think [Cooper has] just got a little bit of an achilles issue and so we’re just being cautious, take it day by day. He won’t play tomorrow.”

On Leo Hjelde:

“Leo Hjelde also has a small calf contusion so he won’t play but the rest of the roster that’s here will be ready and prepared to play.”

  • Alan says:

Firpo injured again before we even start the season. “What a surprise. “ Leeds maybe do better without him going on previous displays (when not injured).

  • Mack says:

Great, that means we can’t sell Firpo and have to endure him untill the new year at the least.

The £67.20 transfer proceeds would have been welcome.

  • Mack says:

On a more positive note Leo Hjelde looks the business.

Give him a go at centre back, may be young but looks more than capable.
