Leeds United head coach Garry Monk says they cannot let all their hard work go to waste after a second straight defeat.

Leeds lost 2-0 at Brentford on Tuesday night, this coming off the back of their 1-0 defeat at Reading on Saturday.

The defeat sees the gap between Leeds and Fulham, the side currently one place outside the play-off places, cut to five points after Sheffield Wednesday won to leapfrog the cottagers in the table.

Six games remain in the Championship season and Monk says the side must now bounce back and not feel sorry for themselves.

‘It’s not often we have had to face back-to-back defeats this season, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We are still in a strong position, the same as we were two games ago,” Monk told the BBC.

‘At the start of the season, nobody would have thought we would be where we are now. This group isn’t prepared to let all of the hard work put in throughout the season go to waste.’

‘Credit to them and how they played because they deserved the win. I’ve watched a lot of Brentford this season and that’s one of the best first-half displays I’ve seen from them.’

Brentford won thanks to first half goals from Romaine Sawyers and Lasse Vibe as Leeds made it just one win from their last five games.

Leeds now welcome Preston North End to Elland Road on Saturday and they will look to continue their impressive home form this season having lost just twice at home from their last seventeen games.
