Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom felt his side deserved the win against Bolton Wanderers.

Caleb Ekuban and Pablo Hernandez were on target as Leeds enjoyed a 2-1 win, only their second win since Boxing Day.

The win was also a second win in nine games for Heckingbottom after he replaced Thomas Christiansen in February and Heckingbottom`s only criticism was his side did not kill the game off as they allowed Bolton straight back into the game after going 2-0 ahead to endure a nervous final 30 minutes.

‘We more than deserved the three points,” Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Leeds..

“The chances created were a positive but then you flip that and we should have been well in control of the game.

“We started both halves fantastically well, we got the goals when we were on top but when we didn`t kill the game off and let them back into it, you are always going to have to defend.

“There were some really good things and we deserved the win.”

Ekuban gave Leeds the perfect start in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Elland Road with over 35,000 at the game.

The Ghanaian fired through a crowded penalty area to score his first goal in the Championship.

Leeds then made the perfect start to the second half when Hernandez prodded home from close range after Ben Alnwick saved Ezgjan Alioski`s shot.

Bolton were given a lifeline soon afterwards when Adam Le Fondre headed home.

Leeds had some nervy moments shortly after the goal with Sammy Ameobi and Will Buckley both going close but Leeds had chances to wrap up the game with Ekuban twice guilty of wasting good chances and Matthew Pennington headed just over the bar.

The win lifted Leeds back into the top half of the table and they will be buoyed ahead of a tough trip to inform Fulham on Tuesday evening.
