Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen feels the confidence is building within the squad as they made it six points from a possible nine since their return from the international break.

Having beaten Middlesbrough last weekend, Leeds won 2-0 at Barnsley on Saturday, as they bounced back from a disappointing defeat at league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.

First half goals from the inform Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski ensured Leeds made light work of what is usually a tricky Yorkshire derby at Oakwell.

The win lifts Leeds back up to eighth place in the Championship just three points off the play-offs, this despite having won just two of their previous nine games.

Christiansen is now hoping the team can build on the past seven days and he feels the team is back to where it was early on in the season when they topped the Championship table.

“For me it is another three points, for the players it is important to build on the confidence,” Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The team is back, we are hoping the results will improve now. I am very pleased for the players to take three points.

“We had two very difficult games against teams who have been in the Premier League and then a derby where we have not done well.

“It has been a very good week.”

Leeds now move into a busy period into the New Year with seven games in the space of 31 days.

Aston Villa are first up for Leeds at Elland Road on Friday, with the midlands club in fourth place on the back of three straight wins.

Leeds also have Norwich City, Hull City and Nottingham Forest at home as well as trips to Queens Park Rangers, Burton Albion and Birmingham City and Christiansen will be hoping Leeds are back amongst the play-off places as the transfer window reopens in January.
