“He wants another year” – Phil Hay delivers fresh update amid Leeds exit talk

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has delivered a fresh update on the future of Leeds director of football Victor Orta following their 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

In the past week or so, the Spanish talent-spotter has been linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Would Leeds cope without Victor Orta?

No way

According to the Independent, Red Bull International Soccer have identified Orta as a candidate to fill the club’s vacant technical director role after the departure of Paul Mitchell earlier this month.

But Hay claims that he won’t be going anywhere, suggesting that he wants another year at Elland Road, particularly if they are in the top-flight next term.

He said:

“It could be that Leipzig are interested but Leeds and Orta insist to us that he won’t be going. He wants another year here and he wants a season in the Premier League. He was kicking every ball in the director’s box today.”

Orta has partly been the man responsible for bringing cult figure Marcelo Bielsa to the club along with talented players such as Brighton loanee Ben White and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.

He also worked closely with the German side when securing the rarely-seen Jean-Kevin Augustin back during the January transfer window.

Leeds United v Bristol City - Caleb Ekuban - Feb 2018

Who did Leeds United sell Caleb Ekuban to in July 2019?

The Whites are of course on the verge of promotion to the Premier League following Saturday’s win as it put them eight points clear of the playoff zone and three ahead of title rivals West Brom.

Orta will be around for that long-awaited return.
