Leeds United romped away with a victory on Saturday afternoon to bolster their chances of playing in the Premier League next season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-1 at Ewood Park, leaving them six points clear of the playoff positions with only five matches left to play this season.

Lorient loanee Illan Meslier enjoyed another decent game between the sticks in the absence of suspended goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and it appears as if the club have big things planned in the near future with the Frenchman.

The 20-year-old is evidently highly-rated as the club are working on a deal to keep him permanently, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

In a Q&A for the Rovers game, he revealed the following information:

“It’s in the pipeline. They want to keep him and they’ve got the option to keep him”

Although the young stopper comes with no experience at any top-flight level, his first game for the Whites was against Premier League Arsenal in the FA Cup where he actually performed superbly, leading to calls for him to start back then.

But he had to wait for his opportunity and he’s taken it with both hands, so much so that it would be a surprise to see Bielsa go back to the Spanish veteran when he returns from suspension.

It also gives the club one less position to think about going into the summer as the Argentine is going to have to work some magic to find a replacement for the likes of Ben White and Gaetano Berardi.
