Leeds target looks destined for big things

Leeds summer target Cody Gakpo looks well out of the Whites league and the feeling is now that they may have missed the boat to sign the Netherlands star.

Leeds United were heavily linked with the PSV forward in the summer in what was a bit of a spending spree for the Whites. The club made around £100m from the sales of Raphinha to Barcelona and Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City. They have spent most of that income on nine summer transfers which included Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra, with the promise of more incomings in the January transfer window. Leeds will have hoped to go back in for the 23-year-old, but after his fantastic World Cup so far in which he has scored three goals in three games for his country, it looks likely he will be going to a top, top team somewhere. Goals against Senegal, Ecuador and host nation Qatar have shown how good he is, and has been the stand-out performer for The Netherlands so far.

Have Leeds missed out on Cody Gakpo?

Yes, definitely!

No, still a chance

No, still a chance

The World Cup and any other major tournament really, has always been a way for players to put themselves in the shop window and gain a move to the Premier League or other top divisions around Europe. This tournament has been no different and several lesser-known players will now be on the radar of clubs all over. The January transfer window will be sure to throw up some big deals around the world, and hopefully, Leeds can be involved in that, however, it now seems the boat has sailed with Cody Gakpo, and I would be surprised if he doesn’t leave for a top 6 club somewhere. Unfortunately for Leeds, at the moment they aren’t a destination club just yet. In the future, if the ownership model gets things right and the plans for the stadium development come to fruition, they can one day secure top talents like Gakpo.
