Leeds set to miss out on a whopping £14m

According to Caughtoffside, Leeds could lose out on a monster pay out from Chelsea after agreeing to Raphinha’s wishes by allowing him join Barcelona. The difference between the deals has now been reported to be a whopping £14m.

After Chelsea’s bid was accepted by the Yorkshire club, it sprang Barcelona into action, and after stalling on the deal to take Raphinha to Spain, they eventually agreed a fee of £49m with Leeds, which could rise to £55m if certain targets are met. It is believed Chelsea had offered the full £55m upfront, but with Barcelona being Raphinha’s dream move, the Leeds board rewarded the winger for his services, by agreeing to accept the Spanish giants offer.

However these figures have been disputed. Reports say that Raphinha’s fee is in fact €48m in fixed fees and €12m in add-ons. It has also been said that the variables are said to be difficult to reach, with a large part of the extra money dependent on Barcelona winning the Champions League. However, if targets are met, it would take the deal to €60m. If none of the variables are met it would mean Leeds would lose out on a staggering £14m.

Considering how much money Raphinha has saved the club after helping them stave off relegation, in actual fact is priceless. Leeds fans won’t begrudge him the opportunity to leave and play at the highest level, and most will wish him well. He has shown whilst at Leeds, that he is an elite player, and deserves to be challenging for titles and Champions League trophies.
