Per The Athletic, former Dortmund assistant manager René Marić is set to join Leeds United as the right-hand-man for Jesse Marsch.

Marić is just 29 but has been at numerous top jobs in Europe, including RB Salzburg, Jesse Marsch’s former club; Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he first worked with Marco Rose and Borrusia Dortmund, where he continued to work with Marco Rose, achieving a second-place finish in the Bundesliga.

Despite this strong league finish, early exits in the Champions League and then Europa League likely were the factors causing the club’s board to relieve Marco Rose, and therefore his coaching staff, of their duties at the German club.

The American Chris Armas was reportedly first-choice for the role at Elland Road, having spent last season with Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United, but declined the job due to ‘personal reasons’.

While at Salzburg, Marić won two league titles and the cup once.
