Leeds interested in former Zenit forward

|

According to Nico Cantor via Twitter, Leeds United are one of three Premier League clubs interested in the services of former River Plate and Zenit Saint Petersburg forward Sebastián Driussi.

Driussi, who currently plays for Austin FC in the MLS, can play as a striker or an attacking midfielder and has scored 27 goals in 51 appearances for the American side. He has also played for River Plate scoring 21 goals in 67 games and then 21 goals in 95 appearances for Zenit Saint Petersburg. The 26-year-old has also represented Argentina at U17 and U20 levels and scored a combined total of 8 goals.

Leeds United are in the market for players and with the January transfer window coming up after the World Cup break, the Whites could be tempted to make a move for the talented attacker. The Yorkshire club are desperate for a striker with Patrick Bamford’s season looking like it will be injury hit again, and the only players to fall back on would be youngsters Joe Gelhardt, Willy Gnonto and Sam Greenwood, but all three of those have limited first-team experience. January is always notoriously hard to bring in good-quality strikers but Sebastián Driussi would certainly fit the bill.

Sebastian Driussi has scored 25 goals from 37 matches this season and was named in the 2022 MLS best eleven, earning him a lot of admirers across Europe. If Leeds United were able to bring him to Elland Road, that would be a major coup for the Whites and will provide them with some much-needed fire-power up top. It is believed Driussi still has 2 years left on his current deal so a hefty fee would be required for Austin FC to part company with the player, but it is too early to tell if Leeds would be interested in a permanent signing or some sort of a loan deal.
