Leeds United youngster Mateo Joseph could be in line to make his debut tonight for the senior side in their third-round Carabao Cup clash at Wolves, As per LeedsLive.

The 19-year-old has been in fine form for the U21s this season scoring 12 goals in all competitions this term and winning plenty of plaudits as the stand-out performer in that division. He is the leading scorer in the Premier League 2 with 11 goals so far. When he signed for the club in January 2022, former U21s coach Mark Jackson said, “He’s a player we’re delighted to have in the group and joining the club. He’s a high potential player who we’ve looked at in the summer and the scouting team have done a lot of work on with regards to recruiting him and looking at how he plays.”

Joseph is a striker but can play anywhere across the front, he is physical and has shown maturity and leadership qualities throughout his appearances this season. He is always happy to lead the press and that has shown with the mistakes he has capitalised on and put the ball away in the net. Scoring 4 on the opening game of the season and then another the week after has helped his side to open up a six-point gap at the top of the table and Jesse Marsch will have taken note of his performances.

U21s coach Michael Skubala has said, “He’s in good form. He still needs to keep working hard, he’s a nine so he still needs to affect the game more as a nine. He’s in a good place, he’s scoring goals, he’s a character, but he still needs to keep working hard. His finishing ability is top drawer.”

Jesse Marsch said, “I think Mateo has developed a lot since I’ve been here. He understands pressing and he understands how to play with intensity.”

“He also has quality and a goal scoring knack. So I think because of his intelligence, because of his quality, and because of his adaptation, he has potential to be a really important player here. The four-goal match obviously is a big statement.”

If Joseph is involved tonight, whether he starts or is introduced from the bench it would be a fantastic achievement for the youngster and a perfect reward for all his hard work and endeavour in the youth system. Leeds United certainly have a great deal of talented players making their way through the ranks, it will be fascinating to see them develop and progress into the first team in the future.
