As per LeedsLive, The Whites are reportedly in the race to sign Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

Moretto claims Wolverhampton wanderers are leading the race for the Brazilian forward with Leeds, Aston Villa and Everton all closely monitoring the situation. The Whites were initially interested in Cunha before he made the switch to Atletico Madrid back in 2021, and it now appears the Spanish club will allow the forward to leave. Leeds are chasing a striker with Patrick Bamford’s injury concerns again in the spotlight as the 29-year-old missed training this week and is believed to have undergone surgery in Germany on a groin injury. The lack of goals from the front line is a major concern for Jesse Marsch and one that will need addressing in the January transfer window.

Matheus Cunha has bags of potential and at only 23 years of age, has lots of time to adapt to the Premier League. He has an indifferent record in front of goal but has good experience playing at some top clubs. He has played 35 times for RB Leipzig scoring twice, 39 appearances for Hertha BSC scoring 12 times and 40 games for Atletico Madrid netting 6 goals. He has represented Brazil 24 times at U23 level scoring 21 goals, and 8 times in the senior squad but has yet to register a goal. It is believed a fee of around £15m would be enough to capture the player from Atletico Madrid.

Leeds will need to make sure they get this transfer window correct and Jesse Marsch will be hoping the club can get all of his targets in as soon as possible, allowing him the best chance to work with his players and hopefully have a good second half to the season. The Whites currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League table, just two points above the bottom three but with a game in hand on those around them. They will face Manchester City at Elland Road in what will be the first game back after the World Cup on December 28th.

What do you think, could Leeds tempt Cunha to West Yorkshire? Let us know in the comments.
