Leeds edge one step closer to landing Bielsa’s £13.5m-rated target – report

Leeds have edged one step closer to striking a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for their Portuguese winger Helder Costa, as Football Insider understand the 25-year-old is eager to complete a temporary switch from Molineux to Elland Road.

Costa has allegedly told his close friends of his desires to kick-start his career with the Whites, having lost his regular starting role in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side following their promotion to the Premier League.

All in, the Benfica product – who set Wolves back a then-club record £13milllion – featured in 25 top-flight encounters in the recent season, but played just 1,345 of a possible 3,420 minutes, scoring one goal.

News that he is willing to make the move to West Yorkshire for a year will certainly be a welcome boost for Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta, after the boss identified the 5 ft 8 winger as one of three wide additions he is hopeful of signing.

Costa also begun following Leeds on his Instagram account earlier in the week, while Wolves are open to selling or loaning the 25-year-old out for the 2019/20 term if Ivan Cavaleiro is able to find a permanent home elsewhere.

A deal for the one-time international to join United for the campaign is not near to being finalised, however, as the £13.5million-rated ace is not scheduled to hold talks with Wolves chiefs until he returns from his summer break later on this month.

The Black Country side could also make negotiations over his loan deal a long, drawn-out affair, as Football Insider add that Espirito Santo’s outfit are still keen to sign Kalvin Phillips on a permanent deal despite our reluctance to sell.
