Leeds United went into today’s early Championship kick-off with Derby County simply looking to further improve on what has been a decent start to the 2019/20 campaign in terms of our results. Welcoming Derby to Elland Road had additional spice to it after the Spygate ramblings of the now departed Frank Lampard, and there was revenge from the Play-Off semi-final to consider, so plenty were hoping we’d put them to the sword.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa saw his side take the lead 20 minutes in as Max Lowe was credited with an own goal, and despite dominating in our now usual fashion, and restricting Derby to only one effort on target, we could get that second goal to kill them off.
Rather predictably, when their only effort on target came, after we’d entered stoppage time at the end of the match, they scored with it to steal a point.
It would’ve been different had Mats Klich converted his chance from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t the only effort wasted and that’s all fans will be talking about.
