“Going To The Very Top” – Pundit Has Massive Praise For Young Leeds Talent

|

Leeds United have seen a number of our talented youngsters make a dent on first team affairs under Argentine gaffer Marcelo Bielsa this year, and there are some names who look likely to be in the next batch of youngsters to make a breakthrough at the club given our success at Under 23 level this year.

One of the standout younger players this term has been Jamie Shackleton who has made the most of his breakthrough campaign, featuring 22 times in total so far in the 2018/19 campaign and there are those fans who wished we’d seen more of him as well – especially in terms of starting appearances.

The 19-year-old has made a great impression though and he’ll be relishing next season and the chance to get his foot further through the starting lineup door, and BBC pundit and Leeds regular Noel Whelan has absolutely gushed about him this week as he spoke to Football Insider.

“I wish I had seen more of him during the season. He is just as good as Jack Clarke, and might be better than Clarke. He is very direct, very fast, tenacious, a good passer of the ball and makes things happen. It’s nice to see Clarke and Shackleton regularly in the first-team squad, but fans would like to see more of Shackleton. He’s got a bit of everything and is going to the very top.”

High praise indeed and there will be those fans who agree 100% with his words, whatever ultimately happens this year with the Play-Off battle, there’s every reason to think the future continues to be bright.
