27 y/o Features In Statistical Team Of The Season, But Key Leeds Performer Misses Out Once More

|

Despite more recent disappointments in the Championship campaign of 2018/19 as we missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United booked their place in the Play-Off battles with games to spare and there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the season extension as we prepare for the two legged Semi-Final affair against Derby County in the coming weeks.

With the curtain now drawn on the regular second tier season following last Sunday’s final round of fixtures, statistics website Whoscored have crunched their final numbers to come up with their Team of the Season for the year, and having turned his own form around – and won plenty of plaudits in the process – centre-half Liam Cooper makes the cut with a season average rating of 7.3.

Team:

Costel Pantilimon (Nottingham Forest), Reece James (Wigan Athletic), Liam Cooper (Leeds United), Adam Webster (Bristol City), Kristian Pedersen (Birmingham City), Emiliano Buendia (Norwich City), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United), Joe Lolley (Nottingham Forest), Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa), Lukas Jutkiewicz (Birmingham City).

Some unexpected selections in there and quite how Pablo Hernandez, in particular, misses out given his return of 12 goals and 12 assists in the league is somewhat beyond me.

But a nice acknowledgement for Cooper in any event.
