In a tweet yesterday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed that, despite reports to the contrary, Leeds United are not in talks with former Manchester maestro Juan Mata.

Since the loss of Pablo Hernández in 2020, there have been suggestions that a creative midfielder could join the club, with Thiago Almada, Nahitan Nández and Djordje Mihailovic amongst those that have been linked in the past few years.

However, with the signing of American Brenden Aaronson, this role may well be far lower on the agenda for the club, despite Tyler Roberts’ loan move to QPR.

Therefore, despite him being “appreciated as [a] top professional and person” by Leeds, he will likely not be at Elland Road this season.

Jesse Marsch has lamented the side’s lack of experience, and with his lengthy list of achievements, the Spaniard would certainly help this. When he won the Europa League,he and teammate Fernando Torres became the first players to hold the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, and Euros simultaneously.

Might the club soon be in for him for real? Only time will tell.
