According to Nicolò Schira via Twitter, Leeds United are in advanced talks with Watford FC for their forward Ismaila Sarr.

The Senegal International is currently plying his trade in the Championship after Watford suffered relegation to the second tier last season. The 24-year-old would seem to be a good fit for Leeds and coach Jesse Marsch likes players with versatility. The forward can play anywhere across the front three and has even played games in midfield, or on either wing.

Sarr joined Watford from French Ligue 1 club Rennes in August 2019 for a rumoured club record fee, believed to be £30 million. He scored his first goal in an EFL Cup game against Coventry City in the same month.  In February 2020, he scored two of the goals and registered an assist in Watford’s 3–0 home victory over Liverpool, handing them their first defeat of the 2019/20 campaign and ending the club’s 44-match unbeaten league run.

In April 2021 he scored the only goal of the game, from the penalty spot, in a 1-0 victory over Millwall. Sealing Watford’s return to the Premier League. Sarr finished the 2020/21 season as Watford’s top scorer with thirteen goals. He started the season in good form as he scored in a 3–2 win against Aston Villa in their opening game of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

He has represented his country three times at U23 level and has 47 appearances at senior level, scoring 10 goals. His most notable appearances were being part of the Senegal squad that reached the final of the Africa Cup Of Nations for only the second time in the nation’s history. He played the full 90 minutes of the final, unfortunately, losing out narrowly 1-0 to Algeria

He could prove to be a good signing for Leeds, whether that be as a winger or as a striker to compete with Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt. Either way, he has Premier League and International experience and his style of play could be interesting in a Jesse Marsch system.

What do fans think? Would Sarr be a good signing, or would you prefer an outright striker? Let us know in the comments.
