Manchester City have agreed a deal to take Kalvin Phillips to The Etihad according to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter.
The news no Leeds fan wanted to hear has broken. Kalvin Phillips will be leaving Elland Road for Manchester City in a deal reported to be £42m overall, but close to £50m with add-ons. Leeds will take Manchester City youth player Darko Gyabi in return with that deal being reported as £5million.
Every Leeds fan knew it was coming, some refused to believe he would go, others resigned to the fact he would be leaving, but after talks had been going on in the background, personal terms had been agreed and now the two clubs have agreed on a fee for the 26 year old England international.

It is still too early to say if it is good business and many of the fans are split on whether the fee was enough for Phillips. In modern day football, to capture an England midfielder, a regular first team England midfielder for less than £50million looks great business. If you scratch away at the fine details though it may not seem all it’s cracked up to be. He is nearly 27, had two major injuries and missed most of last season. These factors must have been reasons why the fee was a little low.
Phillips will always be regarded as a Leeds legend and integral part of the team that won promotion from the Championship, ‘The Yorkshire Pirlo’ will always be a Leeds lad.
The fans will wish him well and will all be keeping an eye on his development in the future.
