In the midst of the Kalvin Phillips deal, Leeds are rumoured to be taking Darko Gyabi as part of the deal, but we ask, who is he?

Now I am not for one minute confessing to know anything about him, but after some research we can confirm his Biography on the Manchester City site details him as a box to box midfielder.  There we go Leeds fans!  How long has it been since we had one of those?

Darko signed for Manchester City in 2018, after progressing through the Academy ranks at Millwall.

He is described as ‘A player who catches the eye with his skill in tight areas and ability to dribble through midfield, Darko played a key role for the U18s in 2020/21 and progressed to the EDS for 2021/22 – playing 11 times, scoring once and making 2 assists in the successful Premier League 2 season’.

He has 2 caps at U18, 8 caps at U16 and 2 caps at U15 levels for England.  He has played once in the EFL cup and once in the FA Youth cup.  He can play as a central midfielder or as an attacking midfielder and his preferred foot is his right.

I don’t think he is ready to jump straight into the first team, and he is no way a replacement for Phillips.  He will link up with the u23’s and hopefully he will get games under his belt and learn the system.  He is certainly one for the future, and one who looks like he has good attributes to one day make his way into the Premier League with Leeds.

It will certainly be interesting to see his development and I for one will keep an eye out and be sure to remember the name Darko Gyabi in the near future.
