According to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United have agreed a five-year deal with 23-year-old defender Pascal Struijk.

Announced on his Twitter account, Romano has stated ‘Leeds have reached an agreement with Pascal Struijk on new contract, it will be valid until 2027 — it’s done. Documents are drafted — improved salary and new deal will be making Struijk one of key players of the club, after brilliant first part of the season.’

Struijk, believed to be one of the best defenders at the club by some fans, played a crucial part in the defence last season as the Whites survived relegation on the final day of the campaign with a 2-1 win at Brentford. He has played out of position this term in the left-back role which has been left occupied by the injured Junior Firpo. Many have preferred him there instead of Firpo which is a testament to how well the youngster has played recently, narrowly missing out on the Netherlands team that went to Qatar after being included in the provisional squad.

Jesse Marsch will be delighted to tie Struijk down to a new improved deal and secure his services for the long term. Leeds will be hoping to add players to the existing squad when the January transfer window opens after the World Cup and hopefully, a natural left-back can be brought in, allowing Struijk to move back into the centre of defence. However, he is starting to shine at left-back and spoke himself of the positional change. He said, “I now play at left-back, which is new for me. I am developing in this position.”

It is still unclear on the targets the club have identified but the fans will be hoping for a few new additions to bolster the squad as the club aim to survive relegation from the Premier League.
