If there’s anything to be said for the latest piece of transfer speculation, the positives end when I type ‘at least it’s not another missed target’.

Nobody should be getting too excited about that, however, as it concerns a potential exit.

Swedish outlet Expressen have reported that West Bromwich Albion are not only possibly sniffing out a return for their former youngster Kemar Roofe. They are now supposed to be after 27-year-old Swedish international Pontus Jansson.

The translation does offer some respite for fans who will already feel their pulses racing. There is actually nothing of note in it when it comes to real details and the report leans heavily on his involvement in this summers World Cup out in Russia given he featured for his nation.

That hasn’t stopped plenty being concerned, if not surprised at such a development given the lack of progress being made by the club this month, but it read like a ‘create a rumour out of the World Cup’ piece to me and it ticks the boxes you’d want.

Former Premier League club looking to rebuild – check.
Are they in need of defenders – check.
Have they ever had a Swedish player we can mention – Jonas Olsson check.

You get the idea.

Jansson does remain under contract but I doubt it’s the last time we’ll see this rumour doing the rounds in the press, although at least getting ourselves out of neutral this summer would potentially help stem it.
