Announced on LeedsLIve, and the YEP, Leeds United have completed the signing of West Ham forward Sonny Perkins.

The youngster, highly rated at The London Stadium, pens a three year deal with The Whites, to become Jesse Marsch’s seventh signing of the summer. It is thought he will go into the first team set up straight away and challenge for a place in the Premier League with the senior squad.

It is rumoured Perkins rejected a new contract at West Ham, to their disappointment. A club statement said  “West Ham United invests millions of pounds annually into its world-renowned Academy of Football and naturally the club is extremely disappointed Sonny has chosen not to continue his development with the Hammers.”

It is unclear if Leeds and West Ham have come to an agreement or if the transfer will go to a tribunal, as The Hammers are entitled to compensation for his development whilst he was at the London club.

Perkins joined West Ham from Leyton Orient in 2019 and was involved in their youth system. On 25 November 2021, Perkins was involved in a West Ham senior matchday squad for the first time, being named on the bench for a Europa League group game against Rapid Wien coming on as a substitute. He has represented England at U15, U16 and U18 level.

Leeds have been in the market for a striker for some time and Sonny Perkins will compete with Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt, Rodrigo, and Sam Greenwood for a place in the forward line.

I just hope this kid isn’t one of those that thinks he is above being on the bench. The short contract is odd.
