According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, highly rated West Ham United youngster Sonny Perkins has joined Leeds United.

‘English midfielder Sonny Perkins has just signed contract and completed medical tests as new Leeds United player, done deal’

The signing will be announced soon, as the youngster leaves West Ham to join fellow Premier League side Leeds United.  The Whites have been very busy in the transfer market, signing six players so far. They have been short on numbers in midfield until recently, but it is unclear if Perkins will go into the first team set up or into the youth team.

Sonny Perkins is highly rated at The Hammers and former captain Mark Noble has praised his hold-up play, as well as his versatility, saying “he started in the Number ten role and he’s moved up to the centre-forward role for the U23s, and scored a lot of goals”

Perkins joined West Ham from Leyton Orient in 2019 and was involved in their youth system. On 25 November 2021, Perkins was involved in a West Ham senior matchday squad for the first time, being named on the bench for a Europa League group game against Rapid Wien coming on as a substitute. He has represented England at U15, U16 and U18 level.

It is thought that West Ham offered the 18 year old a new contract, which was rejected, and now he will join Leeds United.  Yet again another talented youngster signing for The Whites can only be beneficial for the club in the long term. It will be exciting to see how he progresses through the ranks at Elland Road.
