Ashley Williams “This is what I think Leeds fans will be excited about.”

Former Swansea and Wales International defender Ashley Williams has told Leeds United fans to expect excitement with the new partnership in attack forming.

Leeds completed a club-record transfer for Georginio Rutter from the German Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim earlier in the transfer window and the new man has already started to link up well with Patrick Bamford. In the FA Cup fourth-round win over Accrington Stanley, the pair impressed in what was a good rehearsal for the crucial Premier League game next week against Nottingham Forest.

Leeds edged past Accrington Stanley 3-1 with goals from Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo and Luis Sinisterra to put the West Yorkshire club in the fifth round for the first time in seven years. Some stand-out performances from Max Wober in the defence and Luis Sinisterra out on the wing, but the most impressive was the partnership of Bamford and Rutter, highlighted by Williams when he spoke about the pair on Match Of The Day.

As per LeedsLive, the former Everton man said, “There were some flashes of it [Rutter and Bamford’s partnership] working today and you could see it at times. Rutter looked sharp at times, I think he’s going to need a bit of time to adjust.”

“If you look at his [Rutter’s] eyes, he’s looking for Bamford, this is what I think Leeds fans will be excited about.”

It was also good to see Patrick Bamford complete another 75 minutes following his comeback from a series of injuries. His hold-up play was superb and it is clear to see just what the Whites have been missing with him out of the side. Whatever you say about Bamford, Leeds always look like a better side with him in the team. His performance didn’t go unnoticed either, with Williams again heaping praise on the 29-year-old.

He added, “Bamford holds the ball up and then uses a lovely bit of skill to pass to Firpo. Bamford looked good today, he looked sharp.”
