Fabrizio Romano: Midfielder passes medical

|

Renowned football transfer expert has provided Leeds fans with the latest update on the club’s pursuit of USA and Juventus midfield star Weston McKennie, stating that the 24 year old has now passed his medical.

After travelling to Leeds from Italy over the weekend, McKennie looks certain to put pen to paper on his move to Leeds United, with today’s news that he has completed his medical and the deal between the Whites and Juventus is in place for the player’s move.

Confirmed by Fabrizio Romano this morning, Weston McKennie’s move to Elland Road is all but announced, with a long term contract lined up for him. The deal will see Leeds agree a loan move until the end of the 2022-23 season, with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

McKennie’s transfer fee will include a €1.2 million loan fee plus the aforementioned buy option of €33 million. With potential add-ons and clauses, the signing could amount to €40 million in total.

McKennie will link up with his international team mates Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson at Leeds. The 24 year old spoke with 90min.com about his ‘special relationship’ in the USA national team’s midfield with Leeds star Tyler Adams before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar:

“One of the things, as far as me and Tyler, have learned about each other is that he does all the running and I do all the playing. No, I’m just kidding!”

“But I think just us being together for as long as we have and knowing each other for so long, we’ve, I think, developed a relationship that we know each other’s tendencies, we know each other’s abilities, we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and how to cover for one another.”

Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch will be eager to see that special relationship come to fruition in the coming weeks and months as he hopes to steer his side away from another relegation battle. Leeds still have half of their Premier League games to come this season, as well as being in the fifth round of the FA Cup, so there is plenty of football left for McKennie to have a real impact early in his Leeds tenure.

We’ll keep you posted about the McKennie deal and the club’s official announcement, as well as any other transfer developments at Elland Road before the deadline tomorrow night.
