The 1st of September is fast approaching, and it’s all gone quiet at Elland Road.
It has been no secret that Leeds United are desperate for a left-back, and ideally need to sign a striker, but there hasn’t been much noise coming from the Yorkshire club in the past few days. Jesse Marsch had hinted that the club are pursuing options, but now the stance seemed to have changed. The latest indications are that Leeds will not be signing players unless there are outgoings, and if this is the case, the hierarchy hasn’t learned from last season’s nightmare.
All too often it was square pegs in round holes for The Whites’ last campaign. A plan that nearly cost them their Premier League status. To repeat this could be catastrophic to the future of Leeds United. The plan all along was to consolidate their position in the top flight, a plan that has ultimately been achieved, but fans will be hoping for a little more this season. The club has spent money, and they have brought in a host of new faces, but at a cost of losing key players Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha. They have a larger squad this time around, yet still missing reinforcements in the left-back position, and a proven goal scorer to mix it up with Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt.
It seemed the club were actively seeking a left-back and striker, with numerous players linked from multiple sources from around Europe and beyond. The ‘icing on the cake’ transfer of Charles De Ketelaere failed, and the rumours of Arnaud Kalimuendo have gone cold. So, what next for Leeds United in the transfer market? To many, it seems like business is done, and the club are happy with the squad as it is. The fans, however, know we need more and have started to feel worried about the lack of noise coming from the club.
We all know Leeds can spring a surprise on us, like the Raphinha transfer from Rennes came out of the blue, so here’s hoping they have something similar up their sleeve. Maybe they are keeping their cards close to their chests, as we all know clubs could use our situation as a way to cash in and charge extortionate prices. Understandably, the club don’t want to spend beyond our means on just somebody or anybody to fill the gap, but it is getting to the point now where anybody will do. Bamford is injured again and looks set to miss the Chelsea game this weekend. Gelhardt was missing against Southampton, and although Rodrigo is in fine form, more is needed.
There is still time in the transfer window so panic hasn’t set in just yet, but if we are in the same situation in 10 days, it may be time to worry.

Forest have just signed their 16th player, because they have a very wealthy owner.
We started out, with loads of time, to get a striker who could lead the line, as cover for Pat. We also needed a top quality left back to compete with Junior.
So far we have been connected with anyone under 55, who owns a pair of boots, and don’t seem any nearer to getting players for these two positions.
Phil Hay said he would not be surprised we we did not sign anybody else.
