According to Ben Jacobs via Twitter, Leeds United are expected to have a busy week in the transfer market and talks are ongoing for Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner.

Jesse Marsch is a big admirer of the 25-year-old and according to reports, is ‘driving this one’. Benfica are also tracking the German defender who currently plays in the MLS. Leeds are desperate for a left-back when Junior Firpo was ruled out for 8-10 weeks after an injury in the pre-season game against Blackpool. Pascal Struijk has been filling in for Firpo with no other recognised left-back at the club.

Kai Wagner looks to be a good fit for Leeds and the Jesse Marsch system. Philadelphia Union play a similar narrow style and Wagner would be match ready as the MLS season is already underway, and he has appeared in every game so far.

Wagner is well experienced and has appeared over 200 times at senior level for various clubs, including 33 games for Shalke 04 II and 101 for Philadelphia Union scoring 4 goals.  In February 2019, Wagner signed for Union in the MLS for an undisclosed fee. He would emerge as one of the best left-backs in the league, having 30 appearances and 8 assists in his first season with the Union.

With a market value of only £2.7m according to Transfermarkt, he would definitely be worth a punt, and would be a good challenger to Junior Firpo for the left-back position at Elland Road.
