The proposed takeover of Leeds United by the San Fransisco 49ers’ could face opposition from a middle eastern buyer.

According to MailOnline Sport, the sale of the club from Andrea Radrizzani to the NFL Franchise is set to be completed in January 2024, with the deal largely dependent on the league status of the Yorkshire club. An unnamed buyer has now shown a shock interest and could steal a march on president Paraag Marathe and his shareholders for the Premier League club. It is still unclear if the group, based in the middle east will make a serious bid for the club, but their interest is believed to be in the ‘very early’ stages.

The San Fransisco 49ers’ have steadily increased their shares over a number of years and now own 44 per cent of the club, with full ownership set to change hands in a deal worth £400m in 12 months’ time.

The news will come as a shock to all involved, not only the 49ers’ and Radrizzani but also to the fans who believed the club’s ownership was only heading one way. A section of the fans have called for the Italian to sell up and move on with the general feeling amongst the supporters being that he has taken them as far as he could. New investment is needed into the club if the Whites are to start climbing to the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

You get the feeling progression on the pitch is being held back by the affairs in the boardroom and a new group with new ideas and investment could be just what the club needs.
