26-year-old player has turned his performances around, but club need’s contingency plan – Report

It’s OK if he changes his mind.

After all, I’m starting to come around a bit on Kiko Casilla after I’ve been highly critical of him in the past, so it would be harsh of me to not give him some level of leeway when it comes to player performances so far this season. Although I’m still not 100% convinced on him but that’s for another time.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Leeds United defender Danny Mills says that the transformation of Patrick Bamford from this season compared to last season has really made him think again about the 26-year-old’s contributions to the team:

“He maybe struggled a little bit last season, he was out the team with injuries, he came in and at times, missed chances, sometimes his style…you could maybe question whether he was working as hard last season as he is this season? I’m not convinced he was. His work rate is exceptional, hence why he stayed in the team in his goalless spell. For a player that’s been around, seen it, done it, this has been a real opportunity to say ‘no, I want to be in this team and get Leeds promoted’.”

Whilst Mills might be onto something with how he has managed to take a step up this year, currently standing as the club’s top scorer in all competitions, I do still feel that there is a lot of pressure being placed upon him to be the main man for the club and help us get over the line in the promotion challenge.

Having missed two huge chunks of the season last year, it would not come as a surprise if those injuries were to flare up again and he’d be forced to miss out on another large portion. That’s why I’ve been talking so much about the centre-forward position when it comes to January and how crucial it is to get that position spot on by the time the window closes.

Does Radrizzani need to invest in January to avoid a repeat?

Yes

No

If it is to come through the academy, or if we have to buy someone, the fact of the matter is that there needs to be adequate cover for if those injuries do pop up once more.
