£10m needs to be one of Leeds’ top priorities, either in January or in the summer – Opinion

It might be over-exaggerating a bit to say that he’s a ‘must buy’, but I think it’s as close to that moniker as you can get.

In the aftermath of his display against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, one fan asked the question about Jack Harrison and whether or not it would be possible to turn his loan from Manchester City into a permanent deal.

Phil Hay of The Athletic responded by saying that he suspected the fee to bring in Harrison would be roughly £10m, noting that although he is under contract at Manchester City until 2022, Leeds United do have the option to buy him at the end of the season.

Whilst a lot has been made about Ben White potentially costing £20m, and how Leeds would have a real struggle to keep hold of him given the competition for his services, Harrison is starting to come across as the kind of player Leeds should be bringing in regardless of what division they are in.

Whilst I have been highly critical of Harrison in the past, I have to admit that he has really stepped up to the mark in recent weeks, notching three goals and two assists in the last six games, and a further three assists since the start of October, already outperforming the numbers that he had at Elland Road last year.

And the fact that Leeds have the option in place to buy him makes everything that little bit easier, as it should speed up the process and make it easier to fend off competition from other clubs, because his record in the division shouldn’t go unnoticed by the bigger clubs. With Pablo Hernandez getting on a bit at 34, 35 in April, Leeds United have the potential to put together a great one-two punch with him and Helder Costa on the other wing for the next couple of years, and they can’t afford to let him slip through their fingers.

Harrison For £10m?

Only If Promoted

Would Be A Steal Regardless

No

So whilst White might be the club’s number one target should they go up, I firmly believe that Harrison needs to be second on their list, and number one if they do not. I also wouldn’t be scared to try and make the deal permanent in the summer, at least that way you have the business out of the way early.
