With the Leeds United v Aston Villa match last Sunday carrying plenty of controversial moments, I think one thing that brought a smile to the Elland Road faithful’s faces was the reaction of centre-half Pontus Jansson.

Having played peacemaker initially as the Villa bench and players lost their proverbial marbles as Mats Klich put us ahead when the expectation was the ball would be put out of play, Jansson was definitely not on board with manager Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to be the bigger man when he instructed the side to let them equalise.

Our Swedish legend wasn’t having that though and although it wasn’t a full bloodied effort to stop Albert Adomah walking through, he didn’t exactly make it easy and his face spoke a thousand words as the ball went into our net.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds in their coverage of the game at the weekend, he was full of praise for Jansson reacting how he did.

“I like the way Pontus reacted. I know he’s trying to defy the manager’s orders, but at the end of the day he wants to win a game of football. I am pretty sure the majority of the players out there didn’t want that to happen either because they didn’t do anything wrong. You play to the whistle.”
